We’re human, and we make mistakes. The wise person will take those mistakes and learn from them. But it takes a special kind of person to put their mistakes out there for the world to see and learn from.
Tim Linden did just that. In one of his blog posts, he talks about mistakes he’s made while working online. He also goes on to explain why he made those mistakes and how it has impacted him. He hopes people will learn from the mistakes he had made.
Go read it here. I learned a lot from it. I’m sure you will too.
Last week was an adventure that I’d not like to repeat any time soon. Here in Ohio we are used to having our weather affected by many things. We get cold winds from Canada. We get lake effect snow from Michigan. We are prepared for rain storms and some winds from hurricanes in the Gulf. We were not prepared for class three hurricane winds in Ohio. We had no rain, no hail, no lightning. All we had were unrelenting winds that lasted for most of the day on Sunday, September 14.
Almost three million people were without electricity for 24 hours or longer. It took 10 days to restore electricity to the majority of people. The county where I live and the county where I work seemed to have the most damage and took the longest time to restore power.
I feel fortunate that I was only without power for 6 days. Many that I know were not as lucky. It was nice to see the communities pulling together to help families in need. People donated generators to families with special needs children. People held cookouts to feed their neighbors. People volunteered to direct traffic in and out of gas stations.
Very few gas stations had power right after the storm. So those that were open were quickly overwhelmed with customers. It wasn’t long before people were forced to stay home because they couldn’t get fuel for their cars. Many opted to ride bicycles or motorcycles.
Restaurants were overwhelmed also with people who were unable to cook at home. My husband and I opted for a less expensive alternative. We ate nothing but fresh fruit and vegetables for a week.
All in all it could have been much worse. We survived, and that’s what is most important.

As you know some of the best ways to get traffic to your site are through the search engines, and as you know search engines love blogs.
If you know how to use blogs, you can easily get more traffic to your website just by posting your keywords in the title and having your blogs indexed.
Another way to get traffic to your site is to use popular free traffic exchanges. They come in many forms such as start (homepage) exchanges, safelists (opt in email ads), toolbar ads such as instantbuzz.com and forums such as the free advertising forum.
If you are looking to kill two birds with one stone, you can advertise for free on a new BLOG that actually allows you to place your ads for free on their site.
The reason this is good because you get all the benefits of placing your ads on a BLOG, and you get to advertise for free.
Most people would look at this as a no brainer. Although most webmaster do not like people to advertise on the blogs, this site was made just for that.

That’s what most people working online want. They don’t expect to get rich overnight. You and I both know that you can’t really make millions overnight or in six months even. But you can start building a residual income that will help pay off you bills.
Six years ago, I was deep in debt. I tried everything I could to get out. In the end, I had to file for bankruptcy. It’s been a long, hard road since then. I have no credit cards now. I pay everything from my bank account. I was doing well until the gas prices started rising. Then I started wishing for those credit cards even though I know they would only get me into trouble again.
Then I found a place online that is helping me build a residual monthly income. It’s really helping keep me out of debt. I have money now to buy gas for the car. I don’t have to worry about how to make the food last another week until I get my check from my offline job.
Do you want help getting out of debt?
Would you like help building a residual income?
There is a solution. You just need to take the first step and join us to get more information.

Previously I talked about how seeing a site many times could cause someone to click on your banner. You can read that post here if you missed it. The opposite effect can also happen.
Banners are everywhere today. Many people don’t really give them a second thought most of the time. However, if you have a real eye catching banner it will get noticed. It may not get clicks, but it will draw people in. A great banner should make people curious. If you give them a little taste of what your site is about, it will make them begin to wonder. After seeing the banner several times, they will be on the look out for more information. They may click on the banner, or they may click on a splash page or text link. They may even be interested enough to look up you site on Google or another search engine.
With one creative, eye catching banner, you’ll do well, but more would be better. For maximum impact, create several banners. Be sure to have your site name on each of them and have a consistent look. They should each be different and give a different tidbit of information, but you want people to recognize that the banner is yours. It’s also a good idea to have the banners match the style of your splash pages: color, style, graphics, etc. People should be able to quickly recognize that the splash pages and banners are for the same site. They will be more likely to click on the splash page if they recognize that it’s the same site in all the creative banners they’ve been seeing.
This is why it’s critical to use every advertising means available to you: splash pages, text ads, banners, and more. The more places your site is seen and the more methods you use, the more visitors you’ll have to your site.
Many people think that banner advertising doesn’t work. Sure banners don’t get the same click-through rates as splash pages, but people do click on them.
Recently, I saw a splash page for a program. I wasn’t interested in it at the time, but after seeing the splash page a few times, I decided to check it out. However, once I decided to learn more about the program, I wasn’t seeing the splash page anywhere. I couldn’t remember the exact name, so I had trouble searching for it. About the time I decided to give up and move on to other things, I saw a banner ad for the program. Of course, I happily clicked on the banner to learn more about the program.
If it hadn’t been for that one banner, I wouldn’t have joined the program.
Now, if you’re like me, you have many banners for many different programs that you want to promote. Here’s a great site that lets you manage all of your banners in one place. Banner Keyring. It’s a great resource. Instead of changing links to you banners on every site, you have one place to go to manage them all. Try it today!
Have you ever tried looking for coupons or freebies online?
I have. I went through all the major search engines. I scoured coupon sites. I visited forums. For all my hard work, I found only a handful of usable coupons and even less freebies. Most that I found were expired or just didn’t work.
Then I discovered Freebie Force. I wish I had been a member of this site a long time ago. It would have saved me from a lot of wasted time and frustration.
Freebie Force has found all the best freebie deals and coupons both online and offline, and they have put them all in one place. Not only do you get freebies, but you get paid for your referrals, too. They pay $1 per referral per month. You don’t just get $1 when someone joins. You get $1 every month that that referral is a member.
You get all that for just $9.95 a month. I know many will think that’s too much to pay for a Freebie site. Let me tell you this. I made that back my first day with a free software download and a restaurant coupon worth $10. I also signed up for freebies to be sent to me. I have received a sample bottle of vitamins, samples of shampoo and conditioner, and much more. It is really worth much more than the $9.95 I pay each month.
Take the FREE tour today. You’ll be glad you did.
There are many traffic exchanges out there, and they all offer a different mix of benefits. Sorting through all of them can be a daunting task. There are a few qualities I believe set the great exchanges apart from the rest.
- Surf Timers
As a surfer you may like a short timer, but as an advertiser you should want a longer timer. However, a timer that’s too long could cause surfers to wander away to other sites while waiting for the timer to finish. A timer that’s between 8 and 15 seconds is ideal.
- Prizes/Bonuses
I like prizes and bonuses as much as the next surfer. Who doesn’t like to win credits, impressions or even cash? It’s the placement of these prizes that is important. If the prize link is in the surf bar frame, the surfer will be watching the surf bar and not the sites being shown. As an advertiser this is a big concern. You want people to be looking at your site. If the prize link is in the site frame, surfers will watch that area in hopes of winning a prize. That insures that your site will be seen by the surfers. Isn’t that your goal?

That’s something I recently struggled with, and I’ll tell you that the quality of the TEs you join matters more than how many.
When I first started using TEs, I joined all the ones I could find. They would entice me with interesting names and pretty colors. But they weren’t all good as I soon discovered. With some, there just wasn’t very good support. With others, the surf ratio was poor, and it would take buying credits to get page views. Then there were the TEs that let any sites be shown, exposing me to all kinds of things I didn’t want to see.
So, I took a couple weeks and surfed a few exchanges a day to see what each was like. Continue reading »
